"Why is life so difficult?"
You aren't the first smart teen to ask that question.

"When I was your age …blah, blah, blah." Bet you hear this from adults all the time — how the teenage years are so great. Sure, easy for them to talk. No doubt, their grandmothers wore orthopedic shoes (not roller blades), and they lived in a mythical land of the Brady Bunch (of course, none of whom had anxieties, eating disorders or were abused).

Wouldn't it be an eye-opener to see how well yesterday's teen would survive in today's million-megabyte, looney-toons world? Indeed, coping in this overload of craziness is enough to make even the greatest emotional giants break an emotional sweat — let alone most "normal" teens.

Your world is full of attitude. It's tough, it's competitive and it's always in your face. Some days, you feel so bad, so confused or so angry, you feel like your mind is wrecked under a 100-car pile up. How could any teenager be expected to breeze right through without suffering emotional pings and dents? Common'!

Okay, okay. You're having a rough time. Guess what? You're not alone. Right now, millions of teens are struggling with one thing or another – depression, substance abuse, eating disorders, self-injury, thoughts of suicide, and more.

We want to help. We've been working with teens for years, hearing their stories and helping them tackle their issues, one by one. And based upon our experience, we've developed this resource, only4teens, to reach out to the many teens who we can't see face-to-face.

only4teens.org was created by the professional therapists, counselors and doctors affiliated with the Mental Health Resource Center, to share our knowledge and our experience, and to help you make sense of life and all the many emotional problems you cope with on a daily basis. Through the wealth of information presented here, we hope you'll get the support you need to begin your journey towards recovery, no matter what challenge you face today.

It takes courage to try to manage it all, especially when you're feeling depressed, or you're cutting, or struggling with an eating disorder. But congratulations on taking your first step. We hope you'll find this material useful, but please be aware that this is only a starting point.
